The Society maintains a series of hard copy documents in files sorted by surname. They are referred to as the "Vertical Files" in reference to the type of file cabinets in which they are stored. You can browse an index of these surnames and associated files by clicking on the link above. Since these are unscanned documents, you will need to visit the library to access the files. These are only a subset of family information which the Society maintains. If your family name is not listed, you should use the digitized resources noted above.
A Genealogy Research Request is for subjects directly related to family history. Each request may ask up to TWO questions. Provide as much information about the research subject as you know, including previous findings about the genealogy of the family. Submit requests online or by mail with payment.
Other (Non-Genealogy) Research Requests are for topics like the history of an organization, church, school, building, farm, or business in Washington County. Each request may ask TWO questions. Please provide as much information as possible. Request online or by mail using the form below with payment.
The Historical Society maintains an extensive digital collection of historical photographs, illustrations, maps, and documents.
