     About Us
Our Library
Many of our research resources are
included on a computerized partial index
data base, which currently contains over
1,000,000 references! Included are
census data for Washington County,
Virginia, cemetery records, marriage
records, over 1,100 family genealogy files
and books. You will also find information
on the history of Abingdon; Washington
County, Virginia; Southwest Virginia and
the entire region. Detailed indexes for the
Holston Pastfinder, published by the
Holston Territory Genealogical Society of
Bristol, VA/TN from 1982-Dec 2001, and
our own Historical Society Bulletins, from
1936-2007, are also in the database.

Also included in the database, are listings
of 5,500 index cards by Gordon Aronheim,
on the early settlers of Southwest Virginia
and Northeast Tennessee. This
information is from microfilm held by the
State Library of Virginia in Richmond. A
copy of this microfilm is also available in
our library.

In addition, the database includes listings
of family genealogy files and books
located in 21 other Southwest Virginia and
Northeast Tennessee public and
Historical Society libraries, including:
Buchanan, Dickinson, Grayson, Lee,
Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Wise and
Wythe counties in Virginia and the city of
Bristol; Sullivan and Washington counties
in Tennessee; plus Ashe County, North
Carolina. Listings for family genealogy
files and books in libraries in Virginia and
in Kingsport and Johnson City,
Tennessee are also included. Plus,
African-American history and genealogy is
also included in the database.

The database also has article title indexes
for the numerous quarterly publications in
our library.

We welcome donations of family books, or
copies of files, pictures and history
pertaining to Southwest Virginia and
particularly Washington County, Virginia.
All donations are tax deductible.

Annual individual/family membership
dues are $30 a year. Membership
includes 4 newsletters, one annual
